The true history of Indian Flag
For the Indian people, Indian Flag has great significance.it signifies the struggle it took for India to get independence.It also serves as the symbol of Unity and religion "The Indian People are All One".The Indian national flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya the Indian freedom fighter, who lived from 1876 to 1963.
Before the British occupied India. India used to be made up of different princely states each with their own flags this changed after the revolt of 1857 the British introduced a flag to represent their territory and that flag was used from 1858 to 1947.

Now there was a ban placed on flying the Indian flag that led to the use of Swaraj Flag as a sign of Protest in India during Freedom Struggle.This flag was a tri Colour with the charkha in the center.After the independence, many other flags were considered however that same tricolor flag with the charkha(spinning wheel) was adopted as a national flag on July 22, 1947.

The first ever Indian flag known as Kolkata flag looked very different from what it looks likes today.It has many religious symbols and had 8 lotus on it with the phrase "Vande Mataram".It is believed that it was first raised on 7 August 1906 in Kolkatta.

The Second version of the flag came out with little modification and was raised by Madam Cama in Paris in 1907 another flag was then used in 1917 during what was known as Home rule movement.This flag was raised by Lokmanya Tilak and Dr. Annie Besant.
Next was the flag of 1921 this flag was endorsed by Mahatma Gandhi he wanted all the community to be represented in one flag and this flag had three colors on the top was white than green and red at the bottom. White symbolizes the minority groups in India, Green represents Muslims and red represents Hindu and Sikhs.However, this was never adopted as a flag by Congress.

Then the Swaraj Flag was introduced on 13 April 1923 during the procession by local congress volunteers.Unlike Gandhi's flag, this flag became the official flag in 1931 and finally July 22, 1947, it was adopted as the national flag of free India.The next modification they made by replacing the charkha by Ashok chakra and in this way The Indian national flag was born.
